Effect of UV-B Irradiation on Bioactive Compounds of Red Perilla (Perilla frutescens (L.) Britton) Cultivated in a Plant Factory with Artificial Light

In this study, we investigated the effect of UV-B irradiation 3 days prior to harvest, on accumulation rosmarinic acid (RA) and anthocyanin, expression genes related phenylpropanoid flavonoid biosynthetic pathways, in red perilla (Perilla frutescens L.). experiment 1, seedlings at 60 after sowing (DAS) were subjected 0 (control), 6, 10 W m−2 under a 16 h light period; while 2, 45 DAS 4 continuous irradiation, 6 irradiation. UV for negatively affected leaf color, enhanced RA biosynthesis antioxidant capacity. Continuous increased concentration by 92% compared control; however, was smaller than that h, 141% higher control had lower capacity against UV-mediated ROS overproduction during dark period. Results demonstrate is suitable enhancing content perilla.
